The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is hosting a day trip, “Wright’s Accessible Usonian: The Laurent House in Rockford,” on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to a Rockford, Illinois, residence—the only home Wright designed to be wheelchair-accessible.
The home is one of Wright’s “Usonian” designs, noted for their open floor plans on a single level, characteristic of mid-century modern residential architecture.
After lunch, the excursion will stop at the William Pettit Chapel in nearby Belvidere. This 1906 building has classic Prairie-style elements, including a central fireplace, continuous bands of windows and wood trim.
The tour will depart 8:30 a.m. from The Rookery Building, 209 S. LaSalle St., Chicago, and return at 5 p.m; visit FLWright.org/rockford.
