Through Oct. 13 only, Chicago Shakespeare Theater hosts South Africa’s Isango Ensemble in the highly-praised, A Man of Good Hope, a fact-based story about a young Somali refugee coming of age in South Africa, escaping civil war in his own land but facing violence of a different sort in his new home. Told with words, music, song and dance, A Man of Good Hope is described as half opera and half play. It’s part of Chicago Shakespeare’s WorldStage (sic) Series, which offers brief Chicago runs of international theater troupes and productions, giving audiences access to different cultural traditions and theatrical styles. To date WorldStages has featured artists and productions from 22 countries. The series continues Oct. 23-27 with Mexico’s Makuyeika Colectivo Teatral in Andares, presented as part of the Chicago International Latino Theater Festival.
