The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) added two states—North Carolina and Tennessee—and the District of Columbia to its weekly COVID-19 travel advisory on Dec. 7, as daily COVID case rates across much of the country have continued to rise in recent weeks.
Now, every state or territory except for Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Texas and the Virgin Islands is on the travel advisory.
No states are eligible to come off the advisory next week, as daily COVID case rates must be below 15 per 100,000 residents for two consecutive weeks for a state to be removed from the advisory.
Partly as a response to the Omicron variant, CDC has changed the requirements for international travel, and all travelers (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) need to get a negative COVID-19 viral test no more than one day before travel into the United States. CDPH guidelines follow CDC requirements for international travel.
