For two years now, the city’s Halloween Carnaval has been canceled as Angelenos gathered less during the COVID-19 pandemic; officials now seem to want to keep it that way, saying that for all intents and purposes, the event is canceled moving forward, Los Angeles Magazine noted.
“The City of West Hollywood is reminding the community and the region that the City’s annual Halloween Carnaval has been cancelled for 2022 in accordance with protecting health and safety during the City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” read an undated post on the city’s website, Deadline noted.
Of the many events West Hollywood hosts annually, the Halloween Carnaval is the lone listing nixed all three years since 2020, with WeHo Pride (featuring Janelle Monae, JoJo Siwa and Cardi B) returning earlier this year. “We canceled [Carnaval] two years in a row. So it sort of doesn’t exist anymore, in some way,” West Hollywood Councilmember John D’Amico said. He cited the safety concerns that come with massive amounts of revelers pouring into the city while closing down a half-mile of a major West Side road.
