The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) announced the appointment of Jorge Valdivia as its new executive director, according to the Lawndale News.

Valdivia’s previous position was director of performing arts at the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA).

Valdivia—a member of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame—will assume his leadership role at CLATA on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023; he will continue the organization’s mission to propel the city’s local Latino/a/e theater community to a more prominent level and increase Latino representation in Chicago theater.

He will step into a role previously held by Myrna Salazar, who passed away suddenly in August 2022. Salazar co-founded CLATA in 2016 with NMMA, the International Latino Cultural Center and the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance.
